I realize that most who read this are aware of what is going on with Jonah, but some may not be, and others may not have the latest. I also want to keep a record of this for ourselves.

On Sunday, Jonah woke up complaining of abdominal pain, which we later realized (when the lights were on), it was actually hives. As the day progressed, the hives were really bad, just everywhere on him and quite large. That evening, we were directed by the nurses on the phone to take Jonah into our urgent care clinic. After 2 doses of Benadryl, he was still reacting, and he had a swollen ankle and hands, which isn't good. The doctor did not know why he had the swollen joints and gave him a dose of Prednisone. By this point, Jonah could no longer bear weight on his feet and was crying in pain.

Monday morning, he still had hives, more this time, and still swollen. Even his ankle was bruised. Upon the advice of the multitude of nurses in the family, we headed off to the Stollery (children's hospital) ER room. Jonah was quickly diagnosed with Serum Sickness, a rare allergic like reaction to the antibiotics he was taking. Looks like he is like his daddy and can no longer take an form of penicillin!

For the next few days we went back and forth between having a happy and "normal" Jonah, to one that could do nothing but lay on the couch and literally be carried around due to swelling and/or pain in his knees and feet. We even feed him one night because he couldn't hold utensils.

Then, Wednesday night, we took him to the Stollery again. I woke up to Jonah screaming and crying in his room at 1:30am. He was in a terrible state of pain, and it took some time to calm him down. Even with medication, the pain continued. The three of us finally fell asleep 5 hours later, only to have Benett wake up for the day one hour after that (I'm thankful that he slept through all the screaming at least!). We took Jonah in that morning since he again, could no longer bear the weight on his feet, or the pain.

We now play a waiting game. Jonah is on Tylenol and Motrin around the clock to prevent and treat any possible inflammation and pain in his joints, as well as the regular antihistamine everyday until Sunday at least. His hives are much better, only irritated by rubbing or scratching today, so for that we are thankful.

He is at school right now, which is a good sign, but each day we wait and see how he is. The average case of this is 10 days, but can be closer to 14 days. Yay.

So that's it from here. Keep thinking of and praying for him, we appreciate it!
