Although it was a field trip and party, it was technically the last day of school for Jonah. Yesterday he had his last day of real school. I still don't think he fully understood what it meant when he was told over and over again, "Have a good summer, Jonah!". I'm sure it won't take long to kick in that he doesn't have to go to school for some time though!

I didn't get to see him at school yesterday, but I did get to see him running up the driveway off the school bus. It was so cute. He had his backpack on and in his other hand, his big "mystery bag" which contained his fathers day gift. I didn't get a picture, so you'll just have to trust me, he looked so cute.

Today we were off to the farm. A family invites the students there each year end for a party and I can see why. Although Jonah is not a farm boy by any means, he loved the open space.

The day started with Duke the donkey,

two goats, and then a peek at the turkeys and chickens. Jonah wasn't too keen to touch a single animal, nor get his picture taken with any of them. I did manage this one

but only because I told him it was for Benett. Why? Well, since Benett couldn't be there to thank the goats for making yummy milk, cheese, and yogurt for him, someone had to do it, right? And the proof is in the picture! ;)

So next we headed off to see Jonah's favorite, the pigs. Jonah's comment? "Mommy, dey noses ah SO duhty!"

The horses were just as fascinating as they have been his entire life. Please note my immense sarcasm. He could care less about the creatures, which is why there are no photos of him with them. So, we headed off to see the litter of kittens.

Ah, that's better! And no, he didn't ask for one. Thank goodness.

Off to see the alpacas. Again, no interest in them.

By this point, Jonah had had enough. I coralled him into the chicken coop and he gathered up 1/3 of the eggs that were available for gathering, including a fresh warm one right from under the hen's tummy! His poor classmates must have been so disappointed when they went to get eggs, only to find nothing!

After getting the eggs, he ran off to look for more. In the trees.

Guess how many he found?

And what's a visit to the farm without a ride on the tractor.

Even though he didn't get to take a real ride on it, he got pretty close. Another mom discovered the tractor was clicking. I discovered my child had taken the liberty of turning the key halfway to ON. Nice. It was promptly removed and given to the owner.

That didn't stop him though. Jonah continued on and hogged the tractor for a good half hour before moving on.

We ended the morning with some playtime on the play structure, a nice lunch and good adult talk at the picnic table, and a slide show of his first year of preschool.

I asked Jonah what his favorite thing was at the farm was today. His answer was "Da chitens and da pids and the wittoe paydown." The chickens, the pigs, and the little playground.

At bedtime, as I sometimes do, I asked what his favorite thing today was.
"Spending time with you, Mommy."
Awww.

Sweet dreams, buddy.
