Benett's doctor is away when he is due for his 9 month checkup, so we went a bit sooner.
Not a whole lot of excitement (as per usual), but some minor things the doctor wants to keep tabs on include, and no surprise here, is Benett's speech.
Sigh.
I mean, I know he isn't even 9 months old yet and that typically one wouldn't be concerned until the kid was at least 18-24 months. But in our case, we have to be extra cautious and take action sooner than most. At this age, Ben should be saying 'da', 'ma', and 'ba' sounds, and if he was feeling adventuresome, maybe even a first word or two. Instead, he blows raspberries, and makes your typical sounds that you would hear from a 5 month old.
Oh well, we'll just be patient. The upside is that if he does have a speech delay (I can't believe I am looking on the bright side of this being a possibility), we may finally have an answer as to why Jonah has one - genetics. Sure, alot of people figured this was the reason Jonah has a delay since there is a history of speech issues in the family, but both SLPs said there is no way due to the types of language problems. So I guess it would be a genetic thing based on something else? That's why I'm not an SLP!
The doctor also wants to keep an eye on his weight. You'll probably be shocked to hear that he isn't gaining enough weight. I know, look at his cheeks and all his rolls, right? Well, he is still gaining, so that's good, but he isn't gaining as much as he should be. His head and length are on the same percentile though.
Our doctor was also gracious enough (not like the cost actually comes out of her pocket though) to give us about $100 or more worth of formula. Normally, I wouldn't touch the formula, but I'm getting desperate. Not being able to go out and/or base my schedule around feeding him is getting old.
So, with Ben's bottle refusal, I expressed my concern at buying a $25 tin of formula just for him to reject it. We still aren't sure if it's the milk or the actual bottle he doesn't like. We've tried goat's milk (which he used to take willingly) and momma's nectar, and about 6 different bottles/nipples. Nada. He won't dare touch the stuff. We tried the Nutrimagen today and he gave the same response. I'll keep trying until I am frustrated, then I'll crack the soy formula.
So there you have it. A little update. Sorry it was so boring.

Sounds like Ben takes after his dad. Joel never did take a bottle. He just refused to drink from it (I think it came out too slow for him.) He went right to a cup at 9 months. We had to make sure that he got the full amount of formula, but it was the only way he would drink it. (Of course he still got his sucking in because he was quite fond of his Nuk. That he wasn't so willing to part with!!)
