Today we had our formal assessment with the speech therapist.

As mummy instinct had said before, he is a-okay.
If my instinct said he was okay, why did I take him? Well, if there was something wrong, I would have preferred to tackle it now, rather than later. So it was an issue of being proactive.

She was very impressed with Jonah's non-verbal communication (ie, his gestures).
She is encouraging us to keep up what we are doing and has added a few more things to the list. There was even a list of videos and some simple toys to help him out along the way, and strengthen his oral muscles.

Jonah had fun. She had many toys and she did an observational assessment instead of formal testing, which I was very pleased with.

She feels that he may just be one of the many who wait until they are ready to talk.
I appreciated her insight and the things that she said about kids who are delayed in talking and how we can help them. It was nice to talk to a professional that shared the same thoughts I do and was able to agree upon the methods that will help as opposed to the things others have suggested doing. It was quite refreshing actually.

And, Jonah got lots of cookies. What could be better?
